Volunteer Opportunities

COUNCIL ON AGING: The Simi Valley Council On Aging (COA) is composed of nine Executive Board members, appointed by the City Council, and general members who serve on committees and assist with special projects and special events. These volunteers assist with special events, help to raise funds for COA programs, and provide a variety of services to seniors in the community.

MEALS ON WHEELS: Drivers are needed to deliver lunch to homebound seniors Monday through Friday. Schedules vary and drivers are reimbursed for the miles they drive. Car insurance and a good driving record are required.

LIFELINE: The Lifeline Program, an emergency response system that summons help through the push of a button, needs volunteers to install the machines and make monthly telephone calls to subscribers.

BROWN BAG: On a weekly basis, volunteers are needed to bag supplemental groceries at the Senior Center that are provided to low income seniors.

SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM: An average of 80 seniors enjoy noon-time meals Monday through Friday at the Senior Center. Volunteers are needed in the kitchen to help prepare and serve the meal, and to clean-up. Other volunteers assist with taking meal reservations.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Volunteers are needed throughout the year to help assist with special events, such as the Fashion Show, Arts & Crafts Fairs, Italian Dinner and the twice-monthly dances. Hours and days vary and include evening and weekend hours.

CLERICAL HELP: Volunteers are needed to collate, fold and label the monthly newsletter and other special mailings. Volunteers are also needed to assist Senior Center staff at reception desks, to welcome visitors, and for other special projects.
